After about six hours, Maddie reached Ohio. She dragged her bag into her home. Maddie's dad was waiting there. "Hey! You made it! Taken that you made it, I assume you drove here yourself?"
Maddie nodded. "Yeah. Mom didn't even show up. Where is she, anyways?" Maddie took out her knife. "Do I need to hide?"
"Um, I'm not sure where she is." Maddie's dad said.
"That. Isn't. Good." Maddie said.

"The girl is an idiot!" Maddie's step mom said. She took out a knife.
Maddie ducked on instinct, and the knife sailed above her head.

"Exactly!!" Maddie's dad boomed.
Maddie was too scared to speak, so she just nodded in agreement.
Maddie's step mom threw a vase at Maddie. It crashed on her, and Maddie shakily pulled out a glass shard. "No one cares about you, you freak!! Go to your room!"
Maddie shakily got to her feet and ran to her room, locking the door. Her heart pounded in her chest.

Maddie leaned against the door with wide eyes.
"Stop scaring her!" Maddie's dad yelled.
The two parents got in a full blown argument, throwing things and yelling. Maddie was covering her ears, and hiding in a little ball.

"I don't think so." Maddie said quietly. "And, by the way, this is what I was hiding....kind of the reason why sometimes I just go on total rage quit...I was abused when I was little by my stepmom ever since I can remember."
"Shut up!" Maddie's step mom yelled.
Maddie didn't say anything, therefore shutting up.

"It's usually great at my house when my stepmom leaves." Maddie said softly, as Maddie's dad and stepmom were yelling at each other. "But until then I remember I used to lock myself in my closet and Abby would console me. Hopefully my stepmom leaves soon..."
