"Fine," Maddie said. "So, yesterday at night I couldn't fall asleep. So I started playing on my guitar and sang to the stars, hoping my dead brother would hear me." She paused. "Don't judge. I miss him. So anyways, I thought I was pretty good, so I recorded my voice and sent it to a radio contest. And I was like 'Don't expect to win'. But what do you know? I won. And then I was like 'Oh my gosh oh my gosh I won!...Wait, what do I win?' And then a person on the phone was like 'You get to go to California for three months and perform on stage!' And I was like '.....Darn it.' I was wondering if I should really leave to do it or not, and I decided I will." Maddie said.

Annabeth ignored Laiea, and continued walking. When they got to the empire state building, a tarantula appeared, and Annabeth stepped back.
