Yeah, now you remember, Maddie thought. Right when you don't want to remember how you got it. "And, um, Scarlet isn't doing too well." Maddie said to Laiea.

Maddie shrugged. "I'm not sure. Define bad. Like, falling off a cliff bad, or my very soul doomed bad?....I think it's worse than both in my opinion. I guess I could say it 'explains a lot', because that's what all my friends said back when...you know..." Maddie coughed. "They didn't all betray me. But it'll be okay. It's not fatal....uhm, so far. I have to get packing." Maddie went to her cabin.

Maddie stuffed all her things in her bag. She got a phone call, and she picked up. "Maddie Residents. Ha, I always wanted to say that."
"Hey, it's dad." Maddie's dad said.
"Oh, hey. I'm packing." Maddie said. "How's mom doing? Did she kill anyone lately?"
Maddie's dad laughed nervously.
"Seriously." Maddie said seriously. "I'm very concerned."

Maddie zipped up her bag and tried to fall asleep, but she couldn't. She was uneasy the whole night, tossing and turning. She wasn't exactly scared. She was almost never scared. But she remembered everything too much.
