The next day, Annabeth stayed in her cabin all day, dreading the quest. She knew it might possibly take a year to get there, and another year to get back, and the risk of dying on the way was incredibly high. She was scared, but she decided to hide her fear. She couldn't let anyone know she was afraid of leaving her cabin. The enemy was looking for the ring, and it was her job to protect it.

When the time came to leave, Annabeth was too scared to leave her cabin. She didn't know what was out there, and she didn't want to go out into the unknown. She told herself to go out and leave with Maddie, but she was just too terrified to do it.

Annabeth continued walking, even after the sun came out. They were very far from camp, and Annabeth knew it was too late to go back.

"Maddie, we're nowhere near the volcano. This quest could take a year." Annabeth said.

Annabeth sat down in the shade of a large tree. She held the ring tightly, completely silent.

Annabeth looked at the ring. It's crazy, she thought. That such a small thing can be such a big problem.
