Leo ran with her. He stopped behind a shrub right by the sound. He pushed back the leaves, and saw Percy, pinned under the paws of a Nemean Lion.

"That sucks." Maddie muttered. "HEY!!" She yelled at the Nemean Lion. "Hey, you! Yes, you!! Look over here you big furry idiot!! Stop attacking Percy!!" She waved her hands around.

The lion growled angrily, and held Percy down harder.
Percy didn't look scared at first, but when the lion knocked his sword out of his hands, he froze with a terrified look.

Maddie frowned at the lion, waiting for it to do something. If it attacks, you kick it, Maddie thought. If it doesn't attack soon enough, you kick it.

The lion let go of Percy, and growled at Maddie.
Percy got up and grabbed his sword. He tried to stab the lion, but his sword only clashed with the lion's fur.

Maddie only squeezed tighter, hoping the lion would die soon. She just noticed her knees were bleeding. She felt a searing pain on them, but she just assumed she was imagining it.

Maddie let go of the lion, panting. She wanted to sit down, but she didn't. Instead she immediately grabbed Percy's feet and dragged him back to camp dizzily.
