Maddie tried swinging her knife at the shark, but she missed, dropped it, and the waves carried it away. "Things just get better." Maddie muttered to herself. "Well, today I am going to see if I can strangle a shark; but first, let's see if I can outswim it." She dove and splashed under the waves. The pressure hurt, but she kept swimming until she found the dirt, rundown treasure chest. Why couldn't they put it above land instead of underwater? It would make it SO much easier!

The shark bit her leg, but Maddie didn't pay attention. She grabbed the pill, and swallowed it. Ha!! Mission accomplished!!! She would do a happy dance, but it just occurred to her that a shark was biting on to her. After a long time of fighting, you could tell who lost. The shark. No one, not even a shark can handle Maddie at full Maddie-level. Maddie coughed and gasped for air, and began making her way back to camp.

At about midnight that night, Maddie finally got back to camp. The soles of her feet were bleeding, but she was determined to make it back. "Finally..." She muttered. She fell backwards, and right asleep on the camp dirt.

Maddie woke up in the morning, feeling a lot better. It felt like the sky was lifted off her shoulders. Finally, no problems to worry about constantly. She dressed and went to the dining pavilion, munching on three waffles. She was starving.

Maddie sighed and hopped out the Aphrodite cabin window. She walked to the lake, and sat there, deep in thought. It was the middle of spring, and it was pretty hot outside, but Maddie just sat in her tank top and shorts. She really hated wearing her swimsuit. There was a long scar across her stomach she got three hundred years ago that was very deep and disturbing. She remembered when and how. She really wished she didn't. At least the scar on her arm wasn't that bad. Admit it, Maddie thought. You aren't a good girl. If you were, you wouldn't have that scar. It's your fault.

Maddie put back on her sweater, suddenly having that awful feeling again. What was it called? She forgot....oh, yeah, fear. Thinking about her past always made her afraid. Sometimes even mad. But being afraid usually made her mad. She swam through the lake, her clothes sticking to her. She didn't really care. She laid on her back, staring up at the hot sun.

Maddie heard the footsteps very far away. She slowly got to her feet. She silently hid behind a tree and held her breath, waiting to see who it was. She reached down to get her knife, but she remembered it was lost in the ocean. Great.
