"No." Aphrodite said, giving the death glare to Leo.
"Wait," Maddie said. "I have a deal. If I jump off the empire state building and live, you got to give everyone back their memories. If I die, you can erase everyone's memories of me existing again."
Aphrodite thought for a moment, then laughed. "Sure. You're going to die anyways."

The elevator went down, and Maddie got to the top. She gulped, looking down, at the fall that looked like forever. "Show them," Maddie whispered. "That you're not afraid." She closed her eyes for a moment.

Wind whistled against Maddie's ears. She waited to plummet, to fall and kill herself. She thought over the deal. If Aphrodite erased their memories after she died, no one would be there to save her from the underworld. It's okay, Maddie thought. It'll all be fine. You survived three hundred years there.

Finally, after a full minute, came the impact against the frozen water. It felt like her heart stopped, and it did. The impact was bad enough, and the cold was awful too. Frost formed over her body. She tried swimming, but she was paralyzed. She held her breath, which she really had no choice but to do.

Maddie's hair turned white, along with her skin. She began to panic. Badly. She couldn't move, think, or breathe. She simply closed her eyes, and tried reciting songs in her head. But she couldn't think. It felt like her head was frozen, which might have been the case.

Maddie was too cold to shiver. She didn't do anything. Aphrodite was steaming mad Maddie didn't die, but she waited to see if she would and if she really had to restore Leo and everyone's memory.

Maddie nodded. "Yeah, kind of..." Then she looked down at her phone again, and froze. Like, seriously. She completely went stiff and her face went blank. But the creepy part was her phone was on it's home page. There was nothing scary on it.
