Celeste quickly picked Annabeth up and carried her to the infirmary.
Maddie nodded. She picked up a science book, and began reading out of it in a creepy voice. "Here's an experiment you can try at home. Get a flashlight and go into your room. Darken the room." She wiggled her eyebrows. "Turn on the flashlight. Move your hand closer to the wall, and see the shadow getting smaller."

Maddie laughed. "Exactly." She threw the book out the window, and landed with a crash somewhere outside. There was a loud hissing sound. "...I think I just traumatized the neighbor's cat."

"You primary characters," Tara muttered, "always getting in trouble."
"'Primary characters'?" Celeste frowned.
"Forget it," Tara said, taking out a cast mold.
"Part of the reason why I did it," Maddie smiled. "I have a roommate that's sort of like Annabeth. She hates me so much."

Tara wrapped the cast around Annabeth's ankle.
"Well, I stole her copy of Allegiant," Maddie said, "and she pushed me down the stairs. Then I yelled, 'I'm okay!' and she threw the laundry basket at me. I took it to the laundry place, and on purposely made all of her white clothes pink. Then she put my golden game controller in her orange juice."

Tara finished wrapping the cast, and said, "It'll heal in a month or two. Until then, don't run around or walk too much."
Maddie grinned. "Yup. She's reading in her room right now. She said not to talk on the phone because she's studying, but I'm talking through Iris-message, so technically I'm not defying her."
