"Well, when my parents died and my stepdad was lazy Maddie sort of took care of me for a few years..." Celeste said. "You can tell that ended very badly, with many trips to the hospital."

"Dunno," Annabeth said. She heard the growling again, and she followed the sound. She cam across a Nemean Lion, and she narrowed her eyes, looking as if she were deep in thought. She took off running, and the lion chased her.
Leo saw the iris-message. "Hey, Maddie."

Celeste tried to tackle the lion, grabbing it's throat. "Stop it! Go away!"
"Hey," Maddie said. "Sorry I haven't been Iris-messaging you; I'm so busy."

The lion snarled at Celeste and shoved her away. It continued to chase Annabeth into the woods, until her foot got caught in a tree root and she fell over. She clutched her ankle, tears stinging her eyes, and the lion just ran closer to her.
"It's okay," Leo said quietly.

Celeste punched the lion in the throat, looking angry.
"You look upset," Maddie said.

The lion growled at Celeste, fury storming in its eyes. It scratched Celeste's cheek, and turned towards Annabeth, who was still on the ground, holding onto her ankle.
"I just miss you," Leo said.

Celeste punched the lion in the throat again, and stood in front of Annabeth, growing thick vines around them as a shield. She thrust out her hands, crackling with energy. "Don't get any closer or I will shock you."
"I miss you, too," Maddie said. "What have you been doing at camp?"

The lion growled angrily, while Annabeth grabbed her knife. She threw it at the lion, hitting it right in the mouth. It disintegrated almost immediately. Annabeth winced. She quickly grabbed her ankle again.
"Not much," Leo said.
