Maddie was zoning out from all the people talking. As selfish as she felt, she was thinking about herself right now. She, the one who murdered a person just for teasing Annabeth, was petrified. Maddie felt beyond afraid, something so horrible she couldn't explain. She knew telling what she felt would just make people tease her, so she just pretended she was brave.
