"MADDIE!!" Maddie's stepdad yelled, running through the forest like a maniac.
"Whoa." Maddie frowned. "Calm down. No need to panic. What's the matter?!"
"You know how you messed with the time machine and stuff?!" Maddie's dad said, panting.
"Um, sure I do." Maddie said.
"Well, young you accidently jumped out of the way before the bullet hit her!!" Maddie's dad yelled.
Maddie raised an eyebrow. "....So? That's a good thing, right?"

"That's the point!!" Maddie's dad yelled. "Now you died as planned, two hundred years ago when you were seventy years old!!"
"So...." Maddie thought for a moment, then frowned. "Oh, wait. So that means-"
"Yes. You're going to disappear. NOW can we panic?" Maddie's dad asked sarcastically.
"Yes!! Now, let's panic!!" Maddie yelled. "I'm going to DISAPPEAR?!?"

"Well, yeah..." Maddie's dad said. "But I kinda sorta destroyed the time machine."
"Didn't you learn your lesson with Percy almost dying?!" Maddie yelled. "Now I'M going to die!"
"We'll fix this, don't worry." Maddie's dad said.
"How?" Maddie asked.
Maddie's dad didn't say anything. He just stood there, frowning.

"When exactly will I disappear?" Maddie asked.

"Will that be enough time?" Leo asked. He sounded very nervous, but he wasn't surprised. A lot of bad things were happening. Annabeth might possibly die, Maddie was in big danger... it was too much.

"It probably won't!" Maddie said. "It took me TWO DAYS to make the time machine!!"
"Yeah, and that's not even the worst part." Maddie's dad frowned. "You won't even go to the underworld when you die. You'll turn into a constellation, and then after a day of your disappearance everyone's memories will fade of you. Oh, and before you fade away, you'll get really, really sick and won't even be able to move."
"Oh, that's just great!!" Maddie yelled, slapping her forehead.

Maddie's dad frowned. "I'm not sure if we can do anything."
"This IS bad," Maddie agreed. "But we at least have to TRY! Once I'm gone, I'll be gone forever!"
"Well..." Maddie's dad paused. "There's nothing we can do right now than build a time machine. But once you die, there are two options: One, I can build a time machine and hope I won't forget about you in the middle of doing it. Or two..." His voice faltered. "Two is really hard. Forget it."

"Never mind." Maddie's dad muttered.
"Tell me." Maddie growled.
Maddie's dad backed up, obviously scared of Maddie. "Fine." He handed Maddie a packet. "This is how to do number two. Only open it once your dead. It will save you if someone opens it before your dead, but it will kill them."
Maddie slowly took the packet. It'll save her, but kill them if they open it before her death. That's scary.

Maddie frowned. "Wait...why do I feel like I'm shrinking?" Suddenly, as if magic, Maddie's voice sounded higher and squeakier, and she was five inches shorter.
"That also comes with the fading away." Maddie's dad frowned. "You'll keep getting younger and sicker and thinner until you fade away. The anti-aging stops when you turn into a child, though."

Maddie's dad patted her on the back. "Well, at least you won't be as scary when you turn littler. You were kinda cute when you were a kid."
Maddie scowled at her dad, which gave the impression that no matter how old Maddie might be, she would still be the scariest person alive.
