"I couldn't possibly be a demigod." Olivia was saying, frowning. "I mean, demigods are supposed to be all cool and heroic and generous."
Maddie laughed. "I'm a demigod. Yeah, I'm pretty darn cool, but not sure about the others."

"Miss Hills!! There's a practice session!" A woman yelled from outside the door.
"How many times do I have to tell you?! Just call me Maddie!" Maddie called back. "And I'll be there in a sec!" Maddie frowned. "I gotta go. Talk to you soon." The iris-message disappeared, and Maddie ran out the door.

A month and a half passed, and Maddie didn't send any iris-messages. Things got even busier, and the last concert was in two days. She was super nervous. She tried practicing in her room, and she decided to sing Where You Are by Jay Sean, because she wanted to be back at camp and where Leo was.

Maddie was thinking about Leo, and had a scary thought; she could barely remember what Leo looked like anymore. She could remember everything they ever said, all the conversations they had, but she couldn't remember what he looked like.
"That was Jake Smith, and up next is Maddie Hills!" The announcer woman yelled.

Maddie went on stage and performed the song. She went back behind the curtain, her hands shaking.
"And the winner is..." The announcer paused, which made Maddie angry. "MADDIE HILLS!!"
"YES!!" A voice yelled, and it took Maddie a few seconds to realize it was hers.

Maddie was grinning. She couldn't believe she won. Since she won, she wouldn't be chased by the cops anymore! She looked over at Jake, who was frowning.

Maddie thought about everything for a moment. She didn't want to stay away from camp any longer. If she accepted the win, even if she was free from the police, she would have to leave camp forever. "Actually," Maddie cleared her throat. "I don't accept. I think Jake should win."
There was a silence, then someone yelled: "But YOU won!"
"No, Jake won." Maddie said, using her charmspeak.
"Actually, come to think of it...Jake DID win!" The woman said, which Maddie took as a message the charmspeak worked.

"Yeah, that's what I've been TELLING you guys. Now can I go home?" Maddie said.
"Of course, Miss Hills." The woman said. A group of people crowded around Jake. Jake looked back at Maddie and shot her a grin.
Maddie gave him a thumbs up sign, and went to her hotel to grab her things. Well, by grabbing her things, she just stole all the pudding in the fridge.

Maddie threw twenty cups of pudding in her duffel bag, and got on the plane to leave for home. Right when Maddie was trying to remember what Leo looked like, the plane pilot announced due to rain and thunder, there will be small bumps. Liar. The plane's engines crashed. Signals shut down. The lights went out. The plane began plummeting 10,000 feet at 60 mph towards the ground.
