Maddie stopped short behind a corner. There was a blinding light coming from the other room, and hushed evil-sounding voices whispering. Maddie's eyes widened, but then squinted because the light was too bright. She hid behind the corner, and tried seeing who the people were.

Maddie also looked around the corner, and the boy and girl didn't look like anyone she knew. They looked about Maddie's age. Maddie watched and listened quietly.
"What do you mean we can't?! We went all this way!" The girl hissed.
"Ssh!" The boy hushed.
"Sure, like anyone is in this stupid place." The girl rolled her eyes, and Maddie cowered back behind the corner.

Maddie smirked. The girl frowned, staring down at the bright light.
"When is he going to rise?" She whispered.
"In about two days." The boy said quietly.
"Is there ANY way to stop it?" The girl asked.

There was a dead silence for a moment, then the light got about ten times brighter. Maddie let out a surprised shriek, and the boy and the girl turned.
"Whose there?" The girl asked, squinting.
Luckily, the light was to bright to see anything.
"It's nothing, Bailey. Now let's get out of here before-"
The light got even brighter. The girl and the boy screamed.

"Something bad!" Maddie yelled. The light got even brighter, until a large fire started. There were more screams from the boy and girl, which Maddie was at least glad they were alive.

Maddie nodded, but didn't say anything. It felt like there was no more fresh air. Then she remembered about the whole queen of monsters thing. If they were in Tartarus, home of the monsters....would she be able to stop the fire? Well, at least try, she thought.

Maddie's eyes were watering. She coughed out smoke. She tried to concentrate. She closed her eyes tightly, calling to all the monsters. Someone, she thought. Something. Stop the fire. This is your queen speaking. Do as I say, or I might cuss in monster-language.

Maddie's lungs were tightening, and she got an awful feeling. Please, she thought. At least get Annabeth and Leo out alive. She hugged her chest and crippled to her knees, coughing. Just stop the freaking fire, she thought.
