Maddie frowned. "Hey, don't bring that up. Someone might hear-" Maddie stopped. "Oh, yeah, I forgot. Only I can talk to you. I um..." Maddie looked back at camp. "I got to go..." She turned and ran back to camp and into her cabin.

Maddie closed the door, and sat down. She felt cold chills down her spine. A feeling she only got after talking to monsters.
"Why do I always feel like I've done something wrong?" Maddie muttered. "Probably because I always do something wrong." She leaned against the door, and fell asleep before she knew it.

Maddie typically had horrible dreams. But this one scared the fudge out of her. She was standing on top of a skyscraper, looking down. People were yelling and screaming to jump. Maddie gulped. She was afraid. But hint hint; what she was afraid of wasn't the height. She closed her eyes and fell, not even mustering a scream. It was useless. She plummeted against cold water, although it felt like she fell against cement. For a few seconds, she was just trying to swim up, trying to get to the air, trying to breathe.....

Percy snapped awake suddenly. He was having nightmares that bothered him greatly. They'll involved him drowning... but he knew he couldn't drown. He could breathe underwater.

Maddie screamed, trying to gasp for air. When she woke up, she was even more scared. She wasn't in her cabin. She was in an actual lake. She didn't know which was up or down.

Maddie saw a blur of Percy jumping in, but she wasn't sure if she was just imagining things. Everything began getting fuzzy, and she felt lightheaded.

Percy grabbed Maddie and got her out of the lake. But something was wrong. He kept sinking. He tried to swim, but it wasn't working. He felt himself sinking, and he could no longer breathe. Was his fear of drowning controlling him?

Maddie felt a tugging pain in her gut, like she was calling to something, even though she was unconscious and unintentionally doing it. She had absolutely no choice but to just lay there unconscious. Al came bounding over, sniffing Maddie to make sure she was alive.

Percy continued to thrash around in the lake. Could anyone help him? Why couldn't he breathe underwater like he usually could? "Daniel!!!" Percy shouted.

Al stood there for a moment, then jumped into the lake. Percy smelled a little like Maddie. Al figured Maddie would be upset if she found out Al let her friend die.

Al dove under, hooking a horn on Percy's shirt and tugging him up. Demigods are light, Al thought. He pulled Percy up to the surface. He smelled like a son of Poseidon. Why was he drowning, then? Al was confused.

Al threw him onto the shore, unhooking his horn from Percy's shirt. Maddie was starting to wake up. She coughed up some water, and started to cry. Al grunted, and stood next to Maddie, in a pathetic attempt to comfort her.

"Al, we have to get Percy back to camp." Maddie said, wiping a tear. She tried picking Percy up, but she stumbled. "Oh, I forgot. The River of Styx wore off." Maddie sighed. "Al, can you carry him?"
Al nodded, and picked Percy up by his shirt collar with Al's horn.
