Maddie turned to Christian and Blake. "Oh, hey, guys. We're iris-messaging Annabeth. You can talk to her too." She said. "Hi, Annabeth! It's us!" Maddie mustered a smile at Annabeth and waved.

"Ok." Maddie said, but as much as she missed Annabeth, she couldn't forget about the thumping and growling sounds she heard. She touched her sword lightly. What WAS that? It was getting louder and louder, scarier and scarier.

Maddie shook her head. "I don't know. It's probably nothing..." She lied, turning her head towards the noise. She prayed it would stop, but it only got louder. Maddie tried changing the subject. "Do you want to talk to Percy?" She asked.

Maddie didn't notice Leo. She kept running towards the sound. She tumbled over a stick, and fell down. She rubbed her bloody wound and got up slowly. She saw two eyes: A drakon. But for some reason, she didn't pick up her sword, she just stared at it, as if it wasn't big, frightening, and deadly.

Maddie fell down, and scrambled to her feet. The drakon shrieked in pain, and fell to the ground, screaming. "What was I doing?" She murmured.
For some reason, she felt like not killing it. What was wrong with her?! She could have gotten killed!!

Maddie ignored Leo. She slowly got up and walked toward the drakon, not afraid it would bounce back and kill her. She touched it's snout, and stared at it. "What's wrong with me? I AM an idiot." Maddie murmured.

Maddie didn't say anything. The drakon snarled and bit at her hand. "Shut up. I could kill you right now, if I wanted to." Maddie muttered. Apparently, the drakon didn't care. It growled again, and Maddie whapped it against the nose. "Next time I'll use my sword, buster." Maddie said strictly.

The drakon snarled and snapped as proof at Maddie. Maddie stared at the drakon. She ran her hand over it's head, and it snarled again. Maddie frowned, but continued touching it.

The drakon fell down dead. Maddie didn't do anything. Why was the drakon there? Was it a sign? Was it a warning? Maddie stayed frozen, her head swirling with thoughts.
