"I know this is shocking, but you have to remain calm," Charlie said evenly.
"Yeah, or you might go into SHOCK," Maddie snickered. "haha, get it? . . . Shock . . .?"
Charlie didn't react.

Dan groaned. He was beginning to look frustrated as he woke up more. "So what now?"

"Alright," Dan muttered. He tried to stand up, but it seemed that his left leg was also failing him.

"You just had surgery, obviously you'll need to take you on a stretcher," Charlie said, annoyed.

"Ugh, fine," Dan said, not afraid to let his sassy side out even after a medical emergency. "You owe me."

"Same," Dan said. "Death honestly sounds more fun than this," Dan said in a tone that made it hard to tell if he was serious or not.
The Labrador that had been by Dan's side for the past few minutes growled and snapped at Charlie, clearly not wanting him anywhere near Dan.

Charlie scowled at the Labrador. "For Gods' sake," he muttered, as if he was angry, but didn't move anymore.
"Charlie, do you want me to come over?" Maddie asked. "I love dogs."
"I don't see why." Charlie took a small step back, but played it off as if he had simply wanted to stand in that particular place. "Disgusting creatures."
"Oh, come off it," Maddie said. When she saw this had no effect on Charlie, she prompted, "just sing to it."
Charlie mumbled something and rubbed his hands together.

Dan sighed. "He won't hurt you," he said to Charlie. "He acts tough but he really isn't."

"I don't care, it's not like I'm scared of him or anything," Charlie snapped. Maddie rolled her eyes, but Charlie ignored her and carried Dan out of his on the stretcher.

Dan closed his eyes, too tired to reply.
Leo followed, watching as the dog followed behind Charlie cautiously.

Charlie loaded Dan onto the backseat of his car, and got into the driver's seat, still seeming anxious.

"You're just imagining things," Charlie said. "I'm not." He started the engine and drove back to camp.

"If you say so," Leo said, finding it hard to believe Charlie. He was silent on the way back to camp, listening to Dans faint snores coming from the back seat.

Charlie pulled up near camp, and carried Dan on the stretcher into the infirmary.
Tara didn't look up from her paperwork, not even noticing the three of them entering. She kept writing things down, muttering to herself, and had one hand atop a blond boy's forehead, who was laying on a cot and gently groaning.

Leo watched Tara intently, looking slightly confused. He shrugged it off and switched his attention to Dan and Charlie.

"Tara," Charlie called.
Tara didn't do anything.
Charlie set down Dan on a cot, and then went up to Tara and tugged on her ponytail. "Tara."
Tara wrinkled her nose. "You smell like blood. Go take a bath." She turned her attention back to the boy laying on the cot.
"Taraaaaaaa." Charlie laid his head in Tara's lap, looking up at her expectantly.
"You're like a cat," Tara sighed, pushing Charlie off of her. "What do you want?"
Charlie gestured at Dan. "There's a situation."
"Take care of it yourself," Tara said. "I'm busy."

"Well, I AM the best doctor in the world," Tara said, strapping on some gloves.
"No, you're not," Charlie said. "I am."
The boy on the cot let out an animal-like cry and curled up, shivering terribly. The movement brushed his hair out of his face, and Charlie barely recognized him as Oliver. Oliver had a terrible rash all over his face and bandages wrapped around from the nose up.
"What happened to him?"
"Infection from the surgery," Tara muttered, quickly grabbing Oliver and cuddling him like he was a baby. "He tried to gouge his eyes out. Go figure." She looked at Leo. "What happened to Dan?"

"He had a stroke," Leo said. "...Wait. How did you know his name's Dan now? You weren't there when all that happened."

"Charlie told me," Tara said, holding Oliver tighter as he squirmed and cried. "He's quite the gossiper."
Charlie rolled his eyes. "Okay, well, I performed emergency surgery and now apparently one of his arms and one of his legs have no feeling in them."
"Oh," Tara said.
"Oh? What is that supposed to mean?"
"Just oh," Tara said. "Don't read into it. Which arm and leg?"
"I can't remember."
"See, this is why I'M the best doctor."

Leo sighed. "You guys can figure this out yourselves. I need to talk to Maddie about something." He left the infirmary and knocked on the door to the Hades cabin.
Dan groaned and woke up, looking groggy.

After a few moments, Maddie opened the door. "Hey, Leo."
"Stop trying to one-up me and just help Dan," Charlie prompted.
"Well, let's see what he says when he wakes up," Tara said.

"I have something I need to tell you," Leo said. He seemed excited, but also a little sad.
"Where am i?" Dan mumbled. His words were slurred, making him sound drunk. After all, he wasn't rully awake.

"The infirmary," Tara said gently. "Can you tell us your name?"

"I'm leaving camp. I've been trying the past three years to get into college and I finally got accepted. I'm leaving in three weeks." Leo said.
"Dan," Dan muttered. He was blushing slighty.
