"Medusa," Dan sighed. "Don't worry, though, I killed her."

"I can see that. Are you okay?" Charlie asked Dan, not seeming to have much concern for Bailey.

Charlie nodded, and gave Bailey a little tube of golden Oreos. "Go wait in the kitchen, Bailey."
"What if she comes back?" Bailey whispered.
"She won't, go wait outside," Charlie said.
Bailey rejected the tube of Oreos, but still went into the kitchen, crying softly.

"So...," Dan started, feeling awkward. "I was thinking about adopting Bailey."

" . . . I don't think that's possible now," Charlie said quietly, sitting down on Bailey's bed. "You heard her. 'What if she comes back.' If that really was Medusa . . . I mean, a mortal wouldn't have seen all of that. The Mist. She's not mortal, Bailey, I mean. I don't know what she is, but Bailey isn't mortal."
(Gtg, bye!)

"We have to take her back to camp," Charlie said. "Chiron will know what to do with her." He sounded like he thought Bailey was going to die.

Dan nodded. "Yeah, he will." He looked down, afraid about what would happen next.

Charlie went into the kitchen, where Bailey was still crying.
"Bailey, c'mon, we're taking you somewhere," Charlie said.
"Where?" Bailey asked quietly, getting up and backing away.
"It's safe, don't worry," Charlie said, and more firmly, "Bailey, come with me."
Bailey still looked scared, but she followed Charlie reluctantly.

Bailey kept crying as they walked, and Charlie snapped, "Could you be ANY louder?!"
"I bet I could if I really tried," Bailey sniffed.
Charlie rolled his eyes. "A monster's going to come and get you if you don't quiet down."

Once they got to camp, and Bailey went through, Charlie said, "Dan, keep an eye on Bailey, I'll talk to Chiron in private."

Charlie left, and came back about fifteen minutes later with a sullen expression. "He says that if Bailey is here, we know she isn't mortal. If she's a demigod, she'll be claimed tonight at the campfire. If not, she's either a god or something else."
"I'm a god?" Bailey said faintly.

"I doubt she's a god," Dan said. "A demigod would make more sense."

"Yeah, that's what I think, too," Charlie said, studying her. "She really is beautiful. Child of Aphrodite, maybe, but that's just a guess."
Bailey seemed too scared to be flattered. "I want to leave . . . "

"You'll be safe here," Dan said. "How about we go talk to Chiron together? That way you'll feel a little more welcome here."

"You'll be fine," Dan said gently. He grabbed Bailey's hand and led her to Chiron, feeling anxious after not seeing him for so long.

Bailey reluctantly followed Dan, still shaking.
Chiron looked up. " . . . Is this our new camper?" he said, referring to Bailey. "And who are you, young man?"

"Dan . . . alright, Dan, it's great to see you back at camp," Chiron smiled.
Bailey looked horrified and confused, and she was inching towards the door when Chiron turned to her. "Now who is she?"
