Dan hid in his room the entire time, feeling too uncomfortable to leave. When the ship reached Camp, he stayed in his room, curled up in his bed thinking to himself.

Dan finally plucked up the courage to get out of bed. He knocked on Charlie's door, hoping he wouldn't be upset to see him.

" . . . Yeah, you did," Charlie said. "I didn't think you'd show up. Thank you. She's in the kitchen."
He lead Dan into his small kitchen, consisting of a one-panel cupboard, a mini fridge, a stove, an oven, a microwave, and a few pots and pans hanging off from a utility belt bolted onto the wall. A curvy, athletic-looking girl sat at the table, eating a pack of Flaming Hot Cheetos with chopsticks and texting on her phone.

The girl looked up, her strong jawline framed with straight black hair, almost surreally beautiful. "Oh, hi," she said indifferently. "I'm Bailey. I like the name Dan, my brother's name was Dan, you know." She smiled lightly.

Bailey looked at Charlie expectantly. "Is he . . . ?"
"No, no one's adopting you," Charlie said, taking away Bailey's bag of Cheetos which she was obviously not done with. "Dan's going to spend the day with you."
"Oh," Bailey said, a hint of disappointment. She paused, like she was going to say something, then held her tongue.
"I have to go," Charlie put on another jacket, making that the third layer of clothing he was wearing. "I'll see you both in the evening."
"Goodbye," Bailey said.
Charlie just nodded and left.

Bailey shrugged, staring longingly at the trash can for a moment - perhaps in reminisce of her Cheetos? - before turning her attention back to Dan. "Well, my name is Bailey Holt. My mother left when I was young, and my dad was sent to jail recently, perhaps for life. Having no living relatives, the only option was to be sent into foster care. I was fostered by Willow for a while and then Charlie took me in, for unknown reasons, as it seems that he isn't fond of me. He did give me a phone which I appreciate." She waved her iPhone six in the air. "Although, I think it may be bugged. Weird things have been happening to me ever since I've had it. Anyways. I'm eleven. I've recently gone back to schooling which I enjoy. I have lots of friends."

" . . . Eating," Bailey laughed. "I like food. Charlie never eats so I get double the portions, isn't that great? Oh, but I don't gain weight, I do lots of sports. Soccer, cross country, volleyball, and basketball. I do ballet, too. A lot of people don't think that's a sport but I love it. It's my favorite. I wish I had a hamster. I had a hamster but Dan killed it. Not you, Dan, my brother Dan." She giggled. "I like hanging out with my friends too but I can't do that anymore. Boo."

"Because I'm here instead of outside playing," Bailey said. "I can only hang out with them when I do sports, because Charlie doesn't let me leave the house. He thinks I'll kill myself. I don't have any interest in that. I mean, what's not to love about life?" She breathed in deeply. "It's so beautiful. There's so many horrible and amazing things that haven't even happened yet, you know?"
