Charlie narrowed his eyes at Leo defensively. "What's wrong with YOU? I'm fine," he said, sounding extremely salty.
"Why're you getting all triggered?" Maddie scowled at Charlie. "Not cool. Just fix whatever's wrong with Dan."
Charlie put his head in his hands, talking quietly as if he had a migraine he was trying not to disturb. "He may be having a reaction to the . . . the stuff he's taking. Testosterone. Whatever. I'm not sure."
"Well, that's okay, I mean, it's not like you're the doctor," Maddie said sarcastically.
Charlie said nothing.
"That was supposed to be a joke. Nobody laughs at my jokes anymore," Maddie said.
"Maybe because you're not funny," Charlie joked half-heartedly.
"Oh, now you have a sense of humor. You're worthless, you piece of trash."

"Well, what else are we supposed to do! We can't help Dan anymore than we already have," Maddie said.
"I'll hook him up to a heart monitor and we can make sure he's still alive through that," Charlie said. "Otherwise, I think that's it."

Charlie took a deep breath, like he was about to start roasting Leo, then he just sighed like it wasn't worth it and hooked Dan up to the heart monitor. He sat back down in a chair and said nothing for several minutes.
"Doesn't he need an IV or something?" Maddie asked.
Charlie didn't respond.
"Charlie? Hey, Charlie!" Maddie said, clapping in front of Charlie's face.
Charlie groaned. "I was sleeping, *****."

"Dude, you need help," Leo said.
Dan coughed a bit, blood dripping from his mouth. He mumbled something that couldn't be understood.

"Then help him!" Maddie said.
"I'm not a doctor," Charlie sighed. "I want to sleep. Just let me sleep."

"Yeah, but he can't," Leo said. He suddenly scowled, noticing the bottle of pills in Dan's hand. "Hopefully that has nothing to do with it."

"Oh, oh really?!" Charlie said, snatching the bottle of pills out of Dan's hand. "Great job, Sherlock. 'We noticed a bullet wound in the victim's body, but we have no idea how he was killed!' Really, how stupidly obvious could it get?!"
"Hey, you didn't notice it either," Maddie snapped at Charlie. "At least now we know why."
Charlie pulled on some rubber gloves, looking irritated. "Grab some towels and buckets, I'm going to have to pump this idiot's stomach."

"How do you pump a stomach?" Maddie asked. "Like, just push on his stomach?"
"Are you actually stupid?" Charlie asked.
"I'd slap you if it didn't already look like you were going to break in half," Maddie said sharply.
"What does that even . . . ?" Charlie scowled, and took out a small tube, leading it down Dan's throat. "Just make sure this moron doesn't wake up. He might go into shock and die if he does."
"Fun," Maddie muttered.

Charlie started pressing buttons on a machine that was connected to a tube, and liquid started flowing through it.
"How long until this works?" Maddie asked.
"As long as it takes," Charlie said.

"Well, this is great," Leo muttered. "This is totally not a waste of our time." His tone was not only incredibly sarcastic, but clearly agitated as well.

"Well, how about we just let him die!" Charlie shouted, spazzing out. He jerked the tube out of Dan's throat.
"You're going to rip his esophagus or something!" Maddie scowled, putting the tube back in. "Come on, just-"
"You don't understand ANYTHING!" Charlie shouted at Maddie. "Nothing at all! You don't even care that . . . "
"That what?" Maddie narrowed her eyes.
"It doesn't matter," Charlie said, suddenly going back to his normal sulky look. "I'll just finish pumping his stomach, then I'm going back to bed."
"You never sleep."
"Huh?"
Maddie looked straight at Charlie. "You never slept. You have insomnia. You don't sleep. You can't sleep. You hate sleep. You think it's a waste of time. What's really going on? Why are you in your room all the time?"
Charlie didn't answer. He kept his eyes on the tube, as if he never heard Maddie.

Leo sighed, muttering something in Spanish.
Dan coughed a bit, drifting in and out of consciousness, too delirious to realize what was going on.

After about half an hour, Charlie pulled the tube out of Dan's throat. "There. It should be out of his system by now. If you'll excuse me-"
"Don't leave," Maddie groaned. "Where are you going?"
Again, Charlie ignored Maddie and left.

Dan coughed again, beginning to wake up.
Leo watched Charlie leave, still looking mad. "I'll be in the control room if you need me. Hopefully we'll be in Greece tomorrow." He left without another word.

Dan finally woke up, and the effects of whatever he had swallowed weren't entirely worn off, because he looked pretty loopy and almost unaware of his surroundings.
