Dan fought alongside Maddie for what seemed like forever. Finally, Gaea turned to dust, and Dan sighed with relief.

"I hope so," Dan said. "I want to get out of here."
"First we need to find Oliver," Leo said. "And help Zoe."

"I have no clue where Oliver is," Christiana said quietly. "Charlie, will Zoe make it?"
"I don't know," Charlie said.

Zoe coughed, looking pretty weak.
Dan was thinking deeply to himself, when suddenly he felt a sharp pain pass through his shoulder. He winced, looking behind him.
Luke was standing in the distance, with a gun pointed at Dan.
Dan scowled, noticing the bullet wound, but before he could say anything, another bullet hit him in the chest.

"Wh . . . . how did you get here?!" Maddie asked. "Why would you literally go to Tartarus just to shoot Dan?"

"Did you really not notice how I've been following you?" Luke raised an eyebrow, smiling menacingly.
Dan frowned at Maddie, just before collapsing.

"You could've just . . . shot him while he was on the boat . . ." Maddie said awkwardly. "Like . . .? You didn't have to go through all this trouble. Man, how are you going to get out? Because Gods' know that we're not letting you get out with us."
"He could hold the doors open," Christiana piped up.
"Like Hades he'll do that for us, he literally just shot Dan," Maddie insisted.
Charlie knelt down next to Dan. "Remove the bullet or is it better to let him die peacefully?"
"I'd hate to see what you call not peacefully," Maddie said, "but, remove the bullet."

Luke disappeared in a puff of black smoke, which disappointed Leo, as he was prepared to beat Luke up.
Dan winced, bleeding out a concerning amount of blood.

"Are you serious?!" Maddie yelled at the cloud. "Why can't anyone teach ME how to do that?!"
"Maddie," Charlie said softly, "be quiet, this is going to hurt Dan a lot."
"Don't tell me to be quiet," Maddie said, but out of respect for Dan, she stopped talking.
First, Charlie dug his nails into Dan's chest, retrieving the bullet. Then, he removed the bullet from Dan's shoulder, careful not to damage any vital organs. The process took about three minutes.
"Did it hit any important arteries or something?" Maddie asked, trying to sound sophisticated and medical.
"Shoulder wound hit a muscle, which'll require surgery until he can move it again without completely screwing up his shoulder forever," Charlie said. "And the chest wound grazed his lungs. He might have trouble breathing. He'll probably need surgery for that as well."
Charlie hesitated, but then said nothing, watching the wounds bleed.
"Cover them up!" Maddie urged.
"With what?" Charlie said.

Dan bit his lip the entire time, tempted to scream out in pain, but he forced himself with all his might to remain quiet. He didn't want to attract any monsters that were nearby.
"We need to get him out of here and back to the ship," Leo said.

"Use your shirt, dummy," Maddie told Charlie.
"We have to get to the Doors of Death," Christiana said, crossing her arms indifferently. "And you promised we'd find Oliver."
Charlie took off his shirt. "How 'bout you stay down here, hold the doors open for us, and look for Oliver?"
"I'm not leaving both of my kids in H***," Maddie said.
"Thanks, Mommy," Christiana said, in a fake happy voice. "We can make cookies afterwards and cuddle!" She cleared her throat. "Yeah, no. We'll be fine, my dude. I want to die, anyway. And Charlie does, too, apparently. Why's he look all malnourished? How long have y'all been down here?"
"Just a few days, I think . . ." Maddie frowned at Charlie, who looked severely underweight, his stomach concave. "You okay, fam?"
"I'm fine, Dan's bleeding," Charlie insisted, covering Dan's wounds with his shirt.

Dan stared at Charlie's face, trying to ignore the pain. He didn't realize- or care- how red his face had become.
"Well, Charlie's the doctor," Leo said. "Shouldn't he stay with Dan?"

"I can stay down here, then," Maddie said. "Y'all take Charlie back, Christiana and I will search for that little blind boy."
"I SEE your point," Christiana snickered.
Maddie sighed in disappointment at Christiana's pun. "Anyways. Make sure Charlie takes care of himself."
Charlie rolled his eyes. "Yeah, whatever." He tried to lift Dan up, and instantly stumbled, crumpling onto the ground.

Charlie seemed agitated, but he patted Maddie's head. "You'll be alright, then, kid?"
"Yeah, sure," Maddie said. "I'm a child of Hades, anyway, it's Gucci. I'm not at home but I'm, like, in the same neighborhood. Make sure to browse dank memes for me."
" . . . Yeah, okay," Charlie said. "Try not to die."
"I try to die everyday of my life," Maddie said. "Now, let's get a move on to the Doors of Death so I can heroically sacrifice myself for the greater good."

Dan started sweating, looking feverish, which worried Leo. Leo glanced at Charlie. "Is he supposed to be looking this bad after being shot?"
