Charlie pulled Annabeth off again. "Should we just kill her now?"
"No," Maddie said. "I'd feel too guilty, and I wouldn't be able to deal with Celeste's sobbing."
Celeste glared at Maddie. "I don't cry that much!"
"Yeah, you do," Maddie said. "Obviously Annabeth, Celeste, and Austin don't want to join."
"Says a lot about loyalty," Charlie rolled his eyes.
"She betrayed us!" Austin yelled. "Are you crazy?!"
"Yeah," Charlie said. "Thanks for noticing."

"I don't blame you," Maddie rolled her eyes.
"But Leo's not evil!" Celeste yelled desperately. "Leo, please!"

Leo shot Celeste a sorry look, and he stepped closer to Maddie.
Annabeth desperately fought against Austin, reaching for her knife. She grabbed it, and cut Austin's throat.

Austin gasped, crumbling to the ground. "W-why...?!" And then he fell eerily silent.
Charlie watched him die. "Erm..."
"First death of many," Maddie said, sort of coldly, and touched Leo's shoulder. "We have to go, before we get killed."

Celeste stood next to Annabeth, still looking horrified, even with Annabeth killing Austin.
Maddie rolled her eyes, and looked down at the huge gap in the earth. "You can jump. It's safe." And then she jumped down into the darkness.
Charlie scowled, and followed her, thinking of what his mother used to say: "If your friends were jumping off a cliff, would you, too?"
'Yes.'

Annabeth hugged Celeste tightly, crying all over again. She hoped Celeste didn't mind that her shirt was wet with tears.

Celeste hugged Annabeth back, trying to ignore slowly dying Austin. "It's okay."
A few seconds later, Maddie landed on her feet all hardcore, and Charlie awkwardly landed on his arm. "Afraid of heights, huh?"
