"No," Maddie said. "I think we all kind of have minor allergies to cats. Once my mom found a stray cat so she set it on fire and threw it at me. It was kind of painful for both of us. The cat and I, I mean. Not my mom. She was fine."

"Daniel threw a wooden spoon at me," Maddie said, "and on instinct, I threw a metal pipe at him. His stepdad threatened to cut off my hands so I could never throw metal pipes again and Daniel insisted on cutting off my left foot instead. To this day, I do not know why he wished to take off my left foot. I asked him if he had been smoking lately and then he asked me if I was drunk so obviously we just became friends."
