Maddie nodded. She got in the TARDIS, taking out a cleaver and a pistol since she didn't really trust The Doctor.
"They weren't real people," Celeste insisted. "They were book characters. It isn't real."

The Doctor rolled his eyes, and the TARDIS took off. Once it landed in Panel, he shoved Gale out and slammed the door back shut. The TARDIS took off again, and this time, it landed in what looked like Virginia.
"The characters might not be real, but that doesn't mean my pain isn't," Annabeth said.

The Doctor gave Maddie a stern look, and pointed to one of the nearby houses. Yelling was heard from inside, and through the window, a woman was yelling at a young girl with blonde hair and grey eyes. The little girl was crying, and she was obviously under the age of seven.
"Then why does it feel so real?" Annabeth asked.

A man opened the door, and the yelling could be heard more clearly for a few seconds, making it obvious that some very unkind words were said until the man yelled back, ordering silence. He turned back to Maddie. "Who are you?"
"How can I be sure of that?" Annabeth asked.

Maddie died a little on the inside. She made a small, terrified choking sound, and said, "Maddie Hills." She tried to hide her gun behind her back.

"Why am I here?! Why am /I/ here?!" Maddie gasped, trying to sound offended. She fumbled through her collection of badges she stole from cops, and held up one that was engraved with the words 'Official Ceiling Inspector.' And Celeste said you wouldn't need this, she thought. "Official ceiling inspector! Need to check your ceiling under a new state law."
Celeste nodded, and hugged Annabeth.

The man hesitated, but he let Maddie inside.
"Annie, go to your room," The woman said.
"But the spi-" Annabeth began to say.
"Now."
Annabeth looked like she was about to cry, but she ran up the stairs and slammed a door shut.
Annabeth hugged Celeste back.

Maddie walked inside, thinking, 'I'm going to tell this story SO many times.'
Maddie picked up her phone, and pretended to take a picture of the ceiling, but really she turned it onto front-facing lens and was taking a Selfie with the caption #YouWillNotBelieveTheDayIHad. "Yup. That's some fine ceiling-rify. Ooh, wait, there seems to be an internal crack leading to that cute little girl's room." She didn't know why she called Annabeth cute, but she continued. "May I go there?"
Celeste hesitated, then said, "...Do you think Maddie killed Gale?"
