"Sort of," Maddie said. "A lot of it was rather random. I wonder who wrote it. The handwriting doesn't look like any famous author's from the medieval times I can remember-yes, I study old author's handwriting, whatever-so it must've been someone was affected from the disease a while back."

"I'm sorry, but you'll be better off later," Celeste said softly, hurt from the sound of Annabeth crying. "Don't cry."
Maddie nodded. "Anyway...wait, did I just hear a pigeon?" Maddie turned around. "...No, it's a sparrow. What's a sparrow doing? What if it's secretly Captain Jack Sparrow, turned into bird form? We'd never know, unless we put a bandana on it." She blinked a few times, and said, "What were we talking about?"

Leo rolled his eyes. "That disease that's spreading through camp. So how do we know if someone caught this disease?"

Celeste sighed. "You'll find someone who truly makes you happy. A lot of people have crushes on you."
"Well, it says they'll have no choice but to say whatever they think because it impacts the brain first," Maddie said. "Then memories will start slipping away. I hope we find a serum soon, because if I catch it, it'll be really awkward saying all those dirty thoughts."

Maddie felt strange, and sick to her stomach. You're probably just hungry after not eating for so many days, she thought, but when she started shaking Leo awake she accidently said, "Wake up, I want to kiss you."

"No," Maddie said. "I think I caught the disease, and I'm like, 'Maddie, don't say anything awkward, Maddie, don't even think of anything awkward,', but then of course I think of the most awkward stuff." She said something else, but she muffled it with her hand, her face turning red.
