Leo stared at the ceiling all night long, thinking. He had tried to talk to Annabeth kindly, and she responded a bit nicer than Leo was expecting. But why wouldn't she come out of her cabin? He wished she would at least come outside for once instead of staying indoors all day long.

Maddie immediately knew she was in a dream, but where she was disturbed her. Why was she back here? Didn't her brain know she didn't want to be back here?! She tried blinking, suffocating herself, and punching herself, but she couldn't wake up.
"Get over here!!" Maddie's stepmom yelled. "Why aren't you working?"
"I didn't..." Maddie choked. She remembered what happened today.

"Working is all you'll ever be good for!" Maddie's mom screamed.
Maddie winced in pain and would've cried if she was aloud to cry back then. Her mother has written 'No one will ever love you' with a quill on Maddie's arm. She apparently pressed too hard, because it became a scar, and lasted forever and ever, haunting Maddie. Maddie lurched forward in bed, and let out a little yelp, grasping her arm where the message was written. It stung. Maddie jumped out of bed, and paced around the deadly silent, dark camp. She closed her eyes, opened them, and they lit up, shining extremely brightly to let her see better.
