Annabeth desperately used ice to try to stop the dragon, but its fire melted the ice every time.

Maddie chased after the red dragon, then realized 'Oh snap.' The River of Styx wore off. She was terrible at fighting. Still, she decided she would just pretend it didn't. She jumped on the red dragon's back, in attempt to kill it.

Maddie slammed against the floor, and it felt hard to breathe. She panted, trying to catch some air. She shakily pulled herself to her feet, even though she couldn't breathe. She chased after the dragon again, mustering every bit of strength. You are so reckless, she thought.

Annabeth sent a blast of ice at the dragon, knocking it down.
The dragon shook it off and charged.
