When Maddie stood up to walk to the dining pavilion, she felt a slight rumble in the earth, like a mini earthquake. She frowned, wondering she just imagined it.

"Just leave him alone, okay?!" Maddie snapped. "Leave us alone. Go screw up somebody else's life."
Celeste elbowed Maddie in the ribs. "Gaea, we'd really appreciate it if right now you could give us some privacy, Annabeth is sick."
"I don't care if the stupid daughter of Athena is sick," Gaea murmured.
This time, Celeste looked like she was going to kill Gaea.
"She's not stupid!" Maddie yelled. "I already said leave us alone!"

"I have important news to tell, my brave demigods," Gaea whispered. "Listen to me, children."
Maddie glared at Gaea, and skeleton hands started grabbing at her face, and the earth around her face. Gaea's calm expression faltered, pain in her expression just as her form crumpled and the ground went back to normal. The skeleton's returned to the earth, and Maddie was breathing hard, looking rather pale.
"You just had to swear at her?" Celeste murmured.
"I don't care what you think, it had to be done," Maddie said.
