Bob didn't really look surprised, but it didn't lessen his fear. Still, he tried to stroke Maddie's hair, even though it was tangled with blood.

"It's not okay," Maddie snapped. "I don't know what the Hades is going on inside of my head and I can't control anything and I hate myself."

When Abby picked her up, Annabeth suddenly knitted her eyebrows together, but she went limp right afterwards.
"It's alright," Leo said gently. "Just take deep breaths."

Abby frowned, and laid Annabeth down against a tree.
Maddie tried to take a deep breath in, but it soon turned into terrified hyperventilating.
