Maddie saw the fight between the hydra and Annabeth. She gasped when Annabeth's eyes turned green, and tried to assure herself it was just her imagination. She closed the curtains on her window, and tried to focus on the book, but for the first time it seemed scary.

Moon smiled a bit, and petted Cerberus.

Chiron called Maddie from her cabin to have dinner with the rest of the camp. Maddie reluctantly followed, but wished she hadn't.
"Oh, look, it's a Little Miss Death," the Aphrodite girl sneered. "Who have you killed lately?"
"Just leave me alone," Maddie muttered.

"No, I want to know," the Aphrodite girl said. "Who's your next victim? They might want to hide."
Maddie looked down silently.
The girl smirked. "I know what you're thinking. Why don't I pick on someone my own size? You're right. I shouldn't pick on someone who's in elementary school."

Maddie picked at her food, then pushed it away.
"Yeah, you're not eating because you're fat," the girl said. "That's also why you wear the gigantic black jacket all the time, right? Or is it because you're depressed?"
