When they got back to camp, Maddie shook Thomas's shoulder. "Wake up, we're here."
Thomas snapped awake, wanting to frown, but desperately forced a neutral expression. "Okay."
"C'mon, homie, Celeste has to show you around," Maddie said, pulling Thomas to his feet.
"I'm your homie now?" Thomas asked.
"Yes, I've finally accepted you, congrats, Tommy," Maddie said, rolling her eyes.

Maddie walked over to Leo and shook his shoulder, trying to wake him up.
Thomas looked around, seeming confused. He nervously ran his fingers through his thick, dark hair, wanting to ask what to do but also not wanting to seem clueless.

Maddie walked into the infirmary, not noticing Leo, and sat down next to Charlie, who was just staring at his pale hands. "Hey."
Charlie didn't reply, but he looked at Maddie.
Maddie touched Charlie's hair that was going down his neck. "You need a haircut."
"I don't want anybody near my neck with scissors," Charlie mumbled.
Thomas wondered if Percy was Annabeth's boyfriend, but decided not to ask. "Oh, uhm, cool."

Charlie looked up at Maddie, his eyes red and filled with tears. "Does this answer your question?"
Maddie looked shocked, her jaw going slightly open.
"What, you've never seen me cry before?" Charlie mumbled.
"No," Maddie said softly. "You've never let me, anyway."
"Uh...okay," Thomas said awkwardly, and walked away like he knew exactly where he was going.
