"...Oh," Celeste said softly. "I feel bad for his mom."
"My real parents were killed when I was little," Chris said. "The kingdom took me in as a whipping boy, which basically means when the prince got in trouble they hit me with a whip instead of him, because you couldn't touch a prince. I was so upset one night that I ran away and found Maddie's parents. They took me in but they were never nice. They told me if I ran away again they'd tell the kingdom and I'd be whipped to death."
"I know," Maddie laughed. "Our arguments were the best."
