"Why?" Celeste said. "She let us stay at her home, Maddie. The least we can do is let her come with us."
She looks too much like Charlie, Maddie thought angrily. She just nodded weakly, though. "Fine."

Maddie picked up her backpack, swung it around her shoulder, and walked out the door. She didn't say much for a long time, trying not to look at Willow.
Celeste coughed awkwardly. "Willow, aren't you afraid of Mason being home alone?"
Willow rolled her eyes. "There's food in the refrigerator. He'll get by fine without me, and honestly, he's rather mean."
"That's not an excuse to neglect him," Celeste insisted.
"Celeste, let it go," Maddie muttered.

Willow nodded. Celeste and Willow walked off towards a fast food restaurant. Maddie leaned against a tree, and her habit of ripping flesh off of herself seemed to now be out of hunger rather than nervousness, and it had spread to her whole arm.
