Annabeth kept shouting until she ran out of strength. She knew she was sinking, but she no longer cared. She was losing a lot of blood, and her vision became blurry. All of the sounds around her became fuzzy, and she stopped struggling. She just didn't care anymore.

When the earth finally covered their heads, Maddie expected death, but came across something much more terrifying. She sunk five times as fast, and after two seconds she began falling through now air. They were in some sort of underground cave.

A smile wavered on Maddie's lips. She got up, and glanced around. She spotted a giant, and sadly, it also spotted her. "The demigods are here! Put them in their cages!"
Maddie groaned, her headache pounding.

The giant smacked Maddie to the ground, and she immediately fell unconscious, her ear and jaw bleeding heavily. Next, the giant glowered at Annabeth and struck her, too.

A few hours later, when Maddie woke up, her hands and feet were tied, and so were Annabeth's. They were both in their own tiny cells, blood staining the floor and ceiling.
...How could someone possibly get blood on the ceiling? Maddie thought. She had an idea, but it was too disgusting to think too deeply about, especially counting the extreme nausea she felt. She hoped Annabeth would wake up soon. Maybe she'd be able to come up with a plan, if her head wasn't hurting as badly as Maddie's.

Maddie noticed Annabeth looked like she was in pain, possibly worse than Maddie, so she decided not to pester her with questions. Hopefully they'd feel better in the morning...what time was it? Maddie had no idea. A few days could've passed for all she knew, but it didn't feel like she was asleep that long, and she saw the giant walking around, holding a giant club. Her forehead throbbed in response. Even if it wasn't night, she could surely rest some. After that thought, she immediately fell asleep.

It didn't matter. She wouldn't have to deal with Charlie and Harry if she was dead...
"Annabeth," she said quietly, "do you have a drachma?"

Maddie weakly sent an Iris-message to Leo, her right ear still bleeding heavily. She hoped she'd be able to hear out of it soon, but judging the steady stream only slightly slowing down, she knew the chances were slim.

"Sacrifice?!" Maddie choked.
"Yes," The giant said. "You will first be tortured to death in these cages, and then your corpses will be sacrificed in honor of the earth goddess who met her sad demise."

The giant frowned. "...You must have already lost your mental stability. We'll have you flogged right away."
"No thanks, I'm good," Maddie shifted nervously.
