Maddie noticed Emily blush and suddenly snapped, "I'LL carry her." Before Emily could object, she took Annabeth away and carried her herself, even though it was very painful.

"I grew up living with a drug dealer, man," Chris said. "I think I can handle a girl."
"That's what you said before you adopted Maddie," Charlie grinned. "And then BAM! She came in like a wrecking ballll!"

The house didn't seem like a bad place at all. The fireplace was nice and warm, and the living room smelled of pine, probably because of the Christmas tree that was decorated.
Emily's parents saw Annabeth, and they both frowned.
"What happened to her?" Her dad asked.
"Hydra attack, by the looks of it," Emily said. "Could you heal her?"

Maddie gently set Annabeth down on the couch, and ran to the refrigerator. She immediately took out a box of leftover chicken wings and a tub of ice cream. She crammed food into her mouth.

"No problem," Chris said.
"I'm on Accalia's team on the snowball fight," Charlie said.
"I want to be on her team," Chris said.
"We can't all be on the same team," Charlie rolled his eyes.
