Maddie woke up in the evening, gasping. She sat up, and winced, blood soaking the bandages.
"You okay?" Charlie asked quietly.
Maddie tried to answer, but no sound came out of her mouth. She gave Charlie a dirty look.
"It's not my fault," Charlie said. "You can't talk for a few days, but-"
Maddie immediately began panicking. She rocked back and forth, a shrill, raspy scream escaping her mouth.
"You'll just make it longer if you scream," Charlie said, sounding annoyed and concerned.
