"I'm sure one of these times you'll find someone..." Maddie said.

"I doubt it." Annabeth said sullenly. "Love just never works out for me."

"Don't let it ruin your life, Annabeth. Just brush it off the best you can." Maddie said quietly. Then she walked to her cabin.

Annabeth stayed in her cabin for weeks, and she was always depressed. She hated her life. She doubted that she would find someone out there who truly loved her. She knew it had to be impossible. Most of the people at camp avoided her, and she knew it would take a miracle to find someone, but she no longer believed in miracles.

Maddie usually didn't talk much, because she was too busy thinking. She worried about Annabeth, but she didn't even know she knew anything about love anymore. She hated it, but she felt like she didn't know anything anymore, like she needed someone to tell her what to do. She didn't know where to get started.

Annabeth waited for days for a good reason to leave her cabin, but it never seemed like the right time. She didn't want to get teased or bullied by anyone, and she didn't want to fall in love again, only to be left with a broken heart.

You'll never know what'll happen if you don't try, Maddie thought. She walked to Annabeth's cabin, and knocked on her door.

"Happiness." Maddie said. "If you don't come out, you won't be happy."

"And if I do come out, I might fall in love again, only to be left with a broken heart." Annabeth said.

"Life is full of possibilities, Annabeth. You won't be safer in your cabin. Any place at anytime you can die, fall in love, get hurt, or have your life changed forever. Even in your cabin. But there's no chance in being happy unless you take one." Maddie said.

"So? Is it better than to have a 0% chance of being happy, or 40%? At the end of the day, it doesn't matter if you're happy or not. What matters is that you tried your best, and if you could do the day again, you wouldn't have it any other way."

"Trying isn't always worth it, Maddie." Annabeth said. "It could ruin your life."

"It COULD. Listen to what you're saying. It COULD ruin your life. Anything you do really has a chance of failing. I COULD get run over by running across the street at rush hour. The camping tent I bought has a 99% chance of not catching fire, so it COULD burn me and kill me. Staying in this cabin, though, has no chance whatsoever of bringing you happiness. At least coming out COULD give you happiness." Maddie said.

Annabeth raised an eyebrow. "Maddie, you care for a hopeless situation. One day, there will not be a single human being on this planet to remember the things we've done. Everything we do won't matter one day, therefore trying is absolutely pointless."

"Oh, really? Then how come there's building everywhere? How come there's people everywhere? How come there's cars everywhere? All of this happened because people tried. The first people on Earth could have looked at each other and said 'I don't feel like trying. We won't make a difference.' and curled up and died. If they did that, the whole world would be empty. There would not be one living thing on this planet. The whole UNIVERSE would be abandoned Annabeth, if those two people just decided they didn't matter." Maddie said.

"One day, you'll do something really amazing, Annabeth." Maddie said. "Even if you've given up hope in yourself, I haven't given up hope in you."
