"Well, now this isn't fantabolous." Maddie frowned. "C'mon! Cheer up! It's your birthday! You didn't get a prophecy that on one of your birthdays you would eternally turn into a constellation and never be on Earth or the underworld again, right? That's a lot better than MY birthday! Eat a cupcake! Do...something!!!"

"Well, now that you ask." Maddie cleared her throat, and pulled out a thick scroll. She began unraveling it. "Surf a tidal wave, kill a monster, befriend a monster, eat a cupcake, give a cupcake to Maddie-" Maddie paused and grinned. "I like that one the best, by the way. You could practice gymnastics, eat some candy, creep someone out, scare the fudge out of someone, run around screaming 'I like bananas!', even if you really don't..." Maddie took a breath. "Shall I go on? The scroll is about twenty yards long..."

Maddie coughed. "Excuse me? Have you ever even surfed a tidal wave? I think not." She continued. "Go deep sea diving, tie yourself to a car and put on roller skates to let it pull you..." Maddie droned on and on and on forever, until the scroll covered the whole room. "And lastly," Maddie concluded. "Asking your friend Maddie to tell you what's going on in her life, because her life is so interesting, it could make your life interesting." Maddie smiled and refolded the scroll.

Annabeth was staring at the ceiling, apparently bored. She didn't care what Maddie had to say. She doubted that Maddie would find a way to suddenly make things more interesting. She would probably listen to Maddie if she said something about a book, but she doubted that it would ever happen.
