"We can't find Annabeth," Christiana explained, getting up. "We should start looking fo-..." Her voice faltered, staring into the distance.
"Is something wrong?" Maddie asked.
Christiana scowled, lowering her voice. "Wake Charlie and Chris up. We have to go."

"Look in that direction," Christiana said, nudging her head to the east as Maddie started waking Chris and Charlie.
A little blonde girl with bright green eyes was cutting up her long, fancy-looking, bloodstained dress. The most disturbing thing was what she was cutting the black fabric with-a long pair of rusty scissors, far too sharp for a girl who couldn't be more than four to be playing with.
"Seems familiar?" Christiana asked.

Leo raised an eyebrow, walking towards the little girl. He suddenly stepped on something that sounded like metal. He frowned, realizing it was Annabeth's dagger. A few feet away from it was her Yankees cap, a lock of blonde hair, and a piece of paper.

Christiana followed Leo, seeming worried. She picked up the Yankees cap. "What's...oh, gosh. Annabeth's hat. What's it doing here?"

"She must be in trouble," Christiana said, and looked up to see the little girl, who had walked up to them with such silence it was creepy. She looked a lot shorter up close, and she didn't look like she was familiar with the concept of eating.
The little girl touched Christiana's nose, expressionless. She said something, but it was so thickly accented Christiana didn't understand it.

"Well, we have to save her," Christiana said, but she sounded rather distracted and confused, especially when the little girl suddenly snatched the lock of hair out of Leo's hand.

The little girl said something again, holding the lock of hair, and this time Christiana could make out, "You're not a ghost."
"What?" Christiana asked. "Are you?"
The little girl paused, and said something again. When Christiana looked confused, the little girl huffed and started over. "Why do you speak strangely?"
"You're the one who speaks weird, man," Christiana said. "You need to go find your parents. We lost one of our friends."

The little girl looked down. "I don't know."
Christiana scowled. "...Okay. How old are you?"
The little girl shook her head shyly. "I don't know."
Christiana stepped closer, then went back in surprise. "This just confirms you're on drugs. You smell like smoke."
The little girl lifted one of her golden curls and sniffed it. "No I don't."
"You're probably just used to it."

"Well, thanks for clearing that up," Christiana said, sounding annoyed.
The little girl's hard expression didn't even falter. "I'm keeping it."

The little girl said something, but again it was hard to understand from her accent and high-pitched voice.
"Try that sentence again, but slower," Christiana said.
"It has her DNA on it," the little girl said. "Of course, inferior humans can't track it."
Christiana frowned. "Did you just insult us? We could kill you, you know."
"But I don't recommend that," the little girl said.

Christiana took out her knife. "Something is going on here, and I don't like it."
"Put the weapon away," the little girl said.
"Not until you tell me who you really are," Christiana said, pressing the knife against the little girl's throat.
