Finally, Maddie stopped in front of a huge, white house. Through the window, a man and a woman were throwing glass shards at each other.

Chris and Maddie snuck through the back door, and Maddie immediately ran up the stairs, like she knew where everything was. She stopped in front of a door with seven locks on it, rusty with blood, and the words, 'GO AWAY,' engraved on the front, followed with a curse word.

"It isn't breaking in if it's my own room, Leo," Maddie said. After a few minutes, she looked frustrated. "Dang it. I was so advanced. I made better locks than average mortals who could never keep me out."
Chris frowned. "So you can't get it open?"
Maddie opened the door. "No, it just took a few minutes longer. What kind of thief would I be if I couldn't get every lock open?"

Inside of the room, there were lots of shattered pieces of glass. A mirror was cracked, looking as if someone had punched it, and there were little bits of hay everywhere. A little girl was curled up in the corner, sleeping quietly. She was wearing a black lace dress, covered in blood, and she had frizzy blonde hair.

It seemed as though the blood on Little Maddie's dress was fresh. Her fingers were bleeding everywhere, and her teeth were also red. It would've been terrifying when Little Maddie stood up if she wasn't a foot shorter than Annabeth. She studied Annabeth's face, like she was deciding if she was a threat.
Maddie scowled. "...I was scarier than I remember."
"I honestly thought you were scarier," Chris muttered.

Please, PLEASE don't hurt her, Maddie thought.
"I'm lonely," Little Maddie insisted, but instead of chasing Annabeth, she sat back in her corner. "Don't leave me."
