Maddie scowled. She was silent for a long time, still sure she was going to be the one holding the button. She was so wrapped up in her thoughts her foot slipped off the edge of a cliff.
"We have to go on a quest for medicine for Annabeth," Tara said. "It'll save her life."

Maddie scrambled back up to her feet, and noticed she heard a woman crying. She turned around and was shocked to see a sobbing lady with blood running down her face standing right behind them.
Tara started running into the woods, determined to get the medicine on time.

The woman stopped crying, and straightened up a bit. "H-hello, demigods."
"How long have you been following us?!" Maddie frowned.
"For a while," the woman whispered, and began sobbing again.
Tara kept running until she ran out of breath, then slowed to a walk.

"I know the ingredients we have to get to make the medicine," Tara said after a while. "Acid from a specific lab in New York. Water from a park's lake. A mortal's blood."

Maddie followed Akhlys, and noticed the room was getting darker and darker until she couldn't see a thing. "Um. When are we going to get there?"
"Now," Akhlys said. "You're paying me with even more misery because your horrible demigod friends tricked me."
"Percy's not even my friend!" Maddie shouted, but if Akhlys was still there, she couldn't see or hear her.
"Yup," Tara said. "We just have to sneak up on someone and cut them."
