Octavian appeared behind Reyna, holding a teddy bear in one hand and a knife in the other. "Ugh. I see there haven't been any improvements in this horrible camp."

"Octavian," Reyna frowned.

There was a loud booming sound. Maddie flinched, holding her knife in front of her defensively.

A giant stomped into camp, yelling angrily. "You have destroyed our Earth Mother! Prepare to pay the price!"
Maddie felt bad about it, but she backed up a few inches. The giant was bigger than most giants, and certainly scarier. Skulls hung from a belt around his waist, and many scars were trailing down his body.

"Totally," Reyna agreed.
"Well, I guess it's time to fight," Maddie said.
Reyna nodded. "What's the plan?"
"Plan?" Maddie said, laughing a little. "There's no plan, we just fight."
"We have to have a plan," Reyna frowned.
"You need a plan so bad? Fine. The plan is we charge in there and survive," Maddie said. "Ready? Go!"

Maddie and Reyna ran towards the giant.
"You little demigods don't stand a chance!" The giant shouted. "You want to turn against each other."
A cold feeling washed over Maddie. Almost like charmspeak, she thought, then flinched. "Don't listen to him!" she yelled, stabbing randomly at the giant's flesh.

Maddie paused, staring at Percy, then shouted, "Reyna, don-"
It was too late. Reyna slashed at Maddie's stomach, and she stumbled to the ground, shrieking.
