Charlie laughed. "I've been her friend since she was four. Do you think she'll believe you guys? Percy, who she already hates, and Celeste, who tried to steal her precious boyfriend once?"

Maddie went to the infirmary to see Annabeth, but saw Accalia on the steps. She frowned. "Who are you?"

"Maddie," Maddie said, brushing her fingers shyly through her curly blond hair. Two of her teeth were sharpened like fangs, and her green eyes seemed too bright.

The Apollo camper examined Annabeth's eyes. "It has gone on for too long. You need eye surgery."
"Yup," Maddie said, now twisting a long pair of scissors in her tiny hands. It would've looked intimidating if she wasn't four feet tall and horribly bony. "Don't listen to whatever horror stories he told you. He just can't handle how fun I am. And please, don't comment on my height, I'm well aware that I'm short."

"Yes," The boy replied. "The surgery will lessen the pain and make her eyesight better. She'll slowly recover in a few days afterwards. I don't know why Charlie didn't do it in the first place. This is a severe illness." He took out an injection to make Annabeth black out, and put it in her arm.
"Short or tall, I don't care," Maddie said. "Everybody seems gigantic to me, anyway." She took out a piece of candy randomly and ate it.

A few hours later, the operation was complete and successful. The Apollo camper sighed in relief.
"I'm about three hundred years old," Maddie said. "I was born in the 1700's then came back to life a few years ago. I tell most people I'm nineteen, though. I'm a machine-Moon built me-, my godly parent is Hades, and I've been here for...well, a few years."
