Maddie started breathing hard, feeling lightheaded. Even though she knew Annabeth was dead and there was nothing she could do about it, she quietly cut the rope, holding onto Annabeth's arms so once the rope was cut Annabeth wouldn't fall.

Maddie laid Annabeth down on the ground. She left for five minutes, and came back with flowers, covering Annabeth's body with them. When she was done, she started to cry.
