"Charlie's drunk," Maddie rolled her eyes, pushing Charlie's shoulder. "But I don't know what could've caused her legs to go completely numb."

"...Almost sounds like your nervous system is unhealthy, but I'm not a doctor," Christiana said. "Could be myopathy, but that is a disease of the muscle itself, not the nervous system. If the nervous system is ill you could be experiencing peripheral neuritis."
Madeline seemed awkwardly confused.
"I went to college and I don't know what you just said," Chris muttered.
Christiana rolled her eyes. "Neuropathy?"
When Charlie still seemed lost, Christiana looked aggravated. "Does anybody understand?"

"Then I'll dumb it down," Christiana said. "It's a dysfunction of the peripheral nerves, precisely why it's called peripheral neuritis."
"How was that dumbing it down?" Maddie asked.
"Why is the fourteen year old smarter than us?" Charlie asked. "I feel like I have to go to college again."
"Fine," Christiana mumbled, like she was trying to explain inertia to a kindergartener.. "Tingly, numb, weak leg. Unhealthy brain. Understand now?"
