"Keep telling yourself that to keep your ego in tact," Athena muttered.
"There was a prophecy back then," Charlie said. "I also lived back then. I knew her back then. She doesn't think I remember, but she should know by now that Hades doesn't always keep his word. Once I heard the prophecy, it was mostly about some girl referred to as The Child. I've been stalking her ever since, watching if she was the one. After I died the first time, I gave up my search. It resumed later when I met Annabeth. I thought she was so smart, she had to be The Child. That's why I tried to kill her multiple times. Then I figured out it was Maddie. And now Maddie is the one I won't leave alone, because if you knew what she could do, you'd want to kill her, too."
