Maddie's eyes widened.
"Oh no..." She said, remembering her encounter with Hades when trying to get her father back. "Is there anyway I can help?"
She remembered Hades told her not to ever come back unless she was dead, but Maddie didn't tell that Annabeth. In fact, she never even told her she ever WENT to see Hades. It was kind of a secret.

Then her eyes seemed to glaze over, as if she was hearing something Annabeth couldn't hear.

Annabeth watched her run, and sighed. She was glad that her cabin wasn't completely destroyed, and she would still be able to sleep in her bed.

Maddie collapsed near a river, and she began digging and digging.
"It must be in here!!!" Maddie whisper-yelled. "It just HAS to be!!"
She kept digging, but when the river shifted, her progress would all wash away.
