"I think so," Maddie said softly.
"Have you crushed the daughter of Athena?" Khione asked.
Maddie frowned. "Khione...I'm not sure if I should stick with the mission. I know you think they're evil, but they haven't done anything to hurt me. Annabeth's been through a lot, and Leo is so sweet. I think you might be wrong."

"Excuse me?!" Khione demanded. "May I remind you they are children of the Olympians. Tell me, what have the Olympians ever done for you? Ignored you? Made you feel inferior?"
"Does that really make their children bad?" Maddie asked quietly.
"Yes! I'm on your side. Gaea is on your side. The demigods plan on killing you. If Gaea wins the war, everything will change. You must continue the plan."
"Okay."
Khione gave Maddie a dry smile, and disappeared in a puff of snow.
Maddie stared at the ground sadly, then noticed Annabeth. Her eyes widened. "How much of that did you hear?!"

Oh, find out what we're made of, when we are called to help our friends in need," Maddie sang quietly. "You can count on me like one, two, three. I'll be there. And I know when I need it I can count on you like four, three, two, and you'll be there. Because that's what friends are supposed to do..."
