Chiron sighed. "I hate to single one of you out, but it's most likely Maddie did it."
"I was the closest to Charlie," Maddie snapped.
"Yeah, but you're pretty crazy," Chris said. "You've killed people you're close to."
"Why do we even keep her?" Thomas frowned. "Shouldn't she be in jail?"
Chris patted Maddie's head. "But she's so cute."

Thomas didn't seem convinced, but shut his mouth.
"Well, Maddie gets angry if anybody touches Charlie," Chris said. "She wouldn't have the guts to kill him, anyway, since he's so much stronger and more dangerous than her."
Maddie scowled. "No he's not!"
"Yeah, he is," Chris said.
"But Charlie wouldn't fight back if Maddie tried to kill him, right?" Thomas said quietly. "Because he loves her so much."
