"Yeah..." Maddie said. "When things get awkward, I change the subject to something random. So, here's something random; what's up with kidney beans? Are they just TRYING to make you throw up by making you thing of kidneys while eating kidney beans? And what about lima beans? It makes me feel like I'm eating people from Lima. Gross."

"I actually sent letters to people making canned lima and kidney beans, complaining their beans are grossing me out. But then they just send me coupons for free lima and kidney beans. And I'm just like, 'Dude!!! What the Hades?! I'm COMPLAINING about your beans! Why would I want to BUY your beans while complaining about them?! Geez!'" Maddie said.

"My main focus is staying alive," Maddie said. "It's harder than you think. People are always trying to run me over and set me on fire and stuff like that. It gets annoying. People. Please. What will killing me do? I'll plot revenge on them in the underworld, then when their time comes and they're in the underworld, I'll haunt them for eternity."

Another month passed, and Annabeth had gotten very weak. She had to get around in a wheelchair (which she hated.) and she was stuck in her cabin most days. (Which she also hated.) She knew it was only a matter of time.

Maddie was really worried about Annabeth, and knew soon she'd die. It was killing her on the inside, but she didn't let anyone know she was depressed.

Maddie still stayed at the woods at dinner. She knew she was supposed to come back to camp, but she didn't want to talk to anyone, not even Annabeth. She felt angry, sad, and confused at the same time.
